Spanish Song Database created by Sharon Birch. Quite simply one of the best free resources for singing to learn Spanish!

Spanish Songs website with samples of music and links to purchase songs to learn Spanish.

Señor Wooly is a must-have for middle and high school Spanish teachers. Many students want to learn the songs by heart and they pack a punch of language learning! (Or acquisition, rather!) Thank you, Señora McPeak, for reminding me! 🙂

Zambombazo for authentic music resources. Here is the site’s objective: Una variada oferta de actividades divertidas basadas en obras culturales (canciones, tiras cómicas, carteles de cine, publicidad, arte, etc.) en las que se pretende aprender por descubrimiento sobre el idioma español y las culturas del mundo hispanohablante.

Señora McPeak’s YouTube Channel. Includes songs by Señor Wooly and Patty Lozano.

The Okee Dokee Brothers: A great album for younger learners. I have a monolingual friend who recommended this great resource. She is learning the songs along with her child and she enjoys the lessons in between the songs that teach the vocabulary words in Spanish and English.

If I had to pick a single song resource, it would be Señor Wooly. Kids will actually come back to class having voluntarily memorized the songs on their own time. Second favorite would be Zachary Jones’s Zambombazo. He’s almost always one jump (at least!) ahead of me on popular music (I teach high school).

  2. For preschool and elementary, I love using José Luís Orozco’s songs; they lack that quality of much children’s music that makes you want to slam your head against the wall. 🙂 It’s just him and his guitar, kind of folksy; everyone loves him.

    • That’s a great recommendation! I actually have a couple of his books and I used to use his music when I taught at the elementary level. I even think some of his stuff made it into a bilingual play we put on with third graders. You’re absolutely right…his music is not annoying, and is actually very cool! Nothing like some of those young children’s songs/groups you hear! Thanks for reminding me of his great work!!!! 🙂
